MICHAEL OLSSON
Assistant Dean, Administration, School of Theater, Film and Television
Born and raised in Kansas City, Mo., Olsson received
two degrees from UCLA: a B.A. in history in 1973 and a master’s
degree in public administration in 1975. He began working at UCLA
in 1981 after being in private consulting and with the California
State University system. “I was drawn to public service,
and still am,” he said.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Taking a long, hot bath while reading a good mystery novel.
What is your most treasured possession?
My grandfather’s pocket watch.
If you could change one thing about yourself,
what would it be?
I wish I had a quicker sense of humor. I’ve always admired
people who make others laugh easily.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Climbing Half Dome in Yosemite National Park in a day while in
my mid-40s.
