Author sees the returning 'student' as the new norm
Mike Rose, professor of education at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, has written a new book, “Back to School: Why Everyone Deserves a Second Chance at Education” (The New Press).
“Back to School,” to be released in September, is an account of the large numbers of people returning to various levels of schooling. Rose discusses the many adults studying to receive a GED, learn a new vocation or even return to college.
Rose argues that the American tradition of self-improvement is rapidly resulting in the non-traditional student becoming the new normal. Readers will find an anecdotal style meant to be both interesting and informative.
In a cover quote, Bill Clinton says Rose “shines a light” on the institutions that will help America to rebuild its economy.
