Beat ’SC in fitness

Boost your fitness and tackle UCLA’s cross-town rival in the 3rd annual Pac-10 Fitness Challenge October 26-30. Staff, faculty and students are encouraged to pursue a more vigorous daily routine and higher quality of life through a “Beat ’SC” competition to prove which is the more physically active Pac-10 school.
Last year UCLA beat its archrival in terms of total participants and total minutes logged — yet USC is using the slogan “Beat UCLA … again!” this year, a challenge that begs for an even bigger Bruin turnout. Program sponsor UCLA Recreation is aiming for 4,000 sign-ups — 1,000 more than last year.

Participants are encouraged to do as much as they can, even if it’s just a little. Key to the challenge is making sure you go online to the competition site every day and log in every bit of physical exercise you do, whether it’s a 5K run or a 5-minute walk to class. Special events during the week to help make fitness more fun include free guided walks, group exercise workouts and spinning classes — see
details here.
While fitness reaps its own rewards, UCLA Recreation is supplying additional encouragement: upon registration participants receive a free t-shirt, and each day that activities are logged online provides an opportunity to be entered into prize drawings. Participate every day and your reward might be the grand prize — a brand-new iPod Nano.
As another incentive, any staff or faculty member who purchases a UCLA Recreation membership during the Challenge Week will receive a free additional quarter of membership, a T-shirt and two tickets to the Nov. 7 UCLA vs. Washington football game.
