Chief of vascular surgery elected vice president of professional society

Dr. Peter Lawrence, the Wiley Barker Chief of Vascular Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine and director of the UCLA Gonda (Goldschmied) Vascular Center, was elected the 2012-13 vice president of the Society for Vascular Surgery on June 8 during the organization’s annual meeting held in National Harbor, Md.
 
An active member for the past 30 years, Lawrence is a leader in vascular healthcare. Prior to coming to UCLA in 1998, Lawrence became the associate dean for clinical affairs, vice president for specialty services and a professor of surgery at UC Irvine. In 1978 he joined the faculty at the University of Utah, where he served as the chief of surgery at the Veterans Administration Hospital, chair of the Division of Vascular Surgery and president of the medical staff. 
 
The society seeks to advance excellence and innovation in vascular health through education, advocacy, research and public awareness and is a national advocate for over 3,500 specialty-trained vascular surgeons and other medical professionals.
