Come to campus for UCLA Day '09
Wherever Bruins gather, opportunity abounds, nowhere more so than at UCLA Day, the newest and most action-packed Bruin tradition. Take the family, reconnect with old friends and make new ones on Saturday, May 9, at the second annual UCLA Day.
UCLA Day is the premier place for personal, professional and intellectual engagement for UCLA alumni. From special tours such as "Where Wooden Walked," a double-decker bus view of the campus skyline and a private tour of the remarkable new Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, to more than a dozen lectures, food, fun and 40 affinity gatherings, the day will be filled with adventure, learning and creating memories.
Learn about today's politics from Bruin faculty experts, be inspired by UCLA Men's Basketball Coach Ben Howland, get an expert's view of the economy from UCLA Anderson Forecast director Edward E. Leamer, and hear former Chancellor Albert Carnesale’s lecture on sustainability.
You can even see history made as Chancellor Gene Block presents the prestigious UCLA Medal to Rachel Robinson A.A. '42, corporate leader, activist, professor and founder of the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
Planned in conjunction with a picnic lunch, the affinity gatherings will give alumni the ideal chance to make and renew the kind of meaningful connections with UCLA and fellow alumni that carry into the future and out into the world.
"This is a unique opportunity for Bruins to reconnect with peers from their student involvements, network with people from the same academic field and interact with alumni from the same cultural and professional backgrounds," says affinity receptions organizer David Stokes.
The festivities will be close enough for guests to party-hop easily from one gathering to another. Plans include gatherings based on campus activities, geographic areas, diversity and academic or professional school affiliation. The available opportunities multiply with professional school gatherings on Friday and Saturday and UCLA College departmental open houses on Saturday.
. Saturday, May 9, 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m., James West Alumni Center and various locations on campus; additional activities Friday, May 8. For more information, and to register your interests, visit www.ucladay.ucla.edu/2009/Affinity
