Natasha Griffith named director of high containment facilities

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research has announced that Natasha Griffith has been appointed director of high containment facilities. Griffith began her post on Dec. 1, 2011, and will be responsible for overseeing all campus Biosafety Level-3 (BSL-3) laboratories.
Griffith will draw on expertise in managing high containment research laboratories in order to direct lab and uniform safety, oversee training programs and operations, as well as plan state-of-the-art Select Agent programs.
In addition to these roles, Griffith will advise faculty, lab staff and students in the use of Select Agents and pathogens in a variety of lab and non-lab environments.
She will be working closely with the UCLA Office of Environment, Health & Safety and other groups on campus in improving compliance with state- and federally-mandated safety regulations.
Griffith’s prior position was as director of the BSL-3 laboratory in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics.
