The American Society of Landscape Architects has selected Dr. Richard Jackson, professor and chair of environmental health sciences at UCLA's Fielding School of Public Health, as an honorary member. The society advocates for the profession of landscape architecture through education and communication about planning, designing and maintaining both natural and built environments.

Jackson also holds faculty appointments in the Department of Urban Planning and the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. He has done extensive work in the impact of the environment on health, particularly relating to children.  Over the past decade, much of his work has focused on the "built environment," including how architecture and urban planning affect health.
