UCLA ranks No. 2 in nation for its online master's engineering program
The online master’s degree program at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science has been ranked the No. 2 online engineering program in the country by U.S. News and World Report
UCLA is the highest-ranked public university on the annual list, which was released Wednesday. The UCLA Master of Science in Engineering Online Program
received extremely high marks, according to U.S. News criteria, for student engagement, faculty credentials and training, and admissions selectivity. The school received a perfect score of 100 in student services and technology.
More than 50 tenure-track UCLA Engineering faculty participate in the program, which was founded in the 2007-08 academic year.
“Our online master’s program combines the academic rigor required of all UCLA Engineering students with the convenience of an all-online program that serves working engineers who seek to enhance their knowledge and capabilities,” said Vijay K. Dhir, dean of the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. “I’d like to thank Jenn-Ming Yang, associate dean for international programs and online initiatives, for his hard work, as well as the previous leader of the online program, Professor Christopher Lynch, and all the faculty members, staff and students who contribute to this highly successful program.”
Students enrolled in the master's engineeing online program can earn a degree in two years through classes delivered completely online. Areas of study include computer science, computer networking, electrical engineering, integrated circuits, signal processing, materials science and engineering, advanced structural materials, electronic materials, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, manufacturing and design, and systems engineering.
Classes are fully equivalent to corresponding on-campus courses. Programs can be tailored to meet the goals of companies that employ large numbers of engineers.
“We are very pleased that U.S. News & World Report has recognized our Masters of Science in Engineering Online Program as one of the best in the country,” said Jenn-Ming Yang, who is a professor in materials science and engineering and directs the program. “We plan to improve and expand the program in the coming years in ways that will enhance the experience for students while maintaining UCLA Engineering’s high academic standards.”
In addition to the online ranking, U.S. News and World Report places the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science among the top 10 public schools in the country for undergraduate and graduate education.
The school is ranked fourth in the world by the Microsoft Academic H-Index of faculty papers published and cited, and the school is ranked as the 10th best engineering school by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
