Packing ice packs

I had the first of my physical and mental fitness classes yesterday. My legs were like jelly after doing about 200 squats. Driving a stick shift home was torture. I drove with an ice pack on my thighs to reduce inflammation and soreness. I...

Calling on my Dhani Jones spirit

Be careful what you wish for because that is exactly what we got later this week. ... 10 deadlifts, 10 pushups, once up and down Drake Stadium stairs x 5. By the 5th time on the stairs, thinking about Dhani Jones got me through. Dhani is the football player who tackles the globe one country at a time every week on the Travel Channel. His philosophy is never give up, and no pain, no gain. One time, he mentally challenged himself to bike uphill for 17 miles, and I was in utter amazement at his drive and determination. So, with that Dhani spirit with me my last time up those stairs at Drake, the little voice in my head kept chanting, "This is nothing! Congratulations to all the BHIPers who made it through 12 weeks of pain, sweat, and tears! This has been an amazing journey, from Day 1 of wobbly legs and inflamed muscles, to today’s toned and strong muscles, increased endurance, and overall better health.

1)   To lose lots of weight
2)   To improve my health status
3)   To be in the best race-ready shape ever for my favorite hobby, Dragonboat racing

Midway through, my goals were revised:
1)   To get through a workout without any modifications -- specifically, a burpee and a pushup
2)   To run a mile without stopping to take a breath
3)   To improve my numbers, timing, amount of weight I can lift, etc. on the fitness routines

I did meet most of those goals, but not without drama. ... Read Shelley's complete post here.
