Weigh in on UCLA’s draft tobacco-free policy

tobacco - no smokingUCLA’s Tobacco-Free Steering Committee issued a draft today of the policy that will ban tobacco on campus next April, giving Bruins two months to review it and weigh in.
 
For the roughly one in 10 Bruins who smoke – as well as for the other nine who don’t – the draft policy is available on Moodle, and via the UCLA Academic Senate and Executive Vice Chancellor Scott Waugh’s website, among other locations. Students, staff and faculty are invited to submit comments to the steering committee at tobaccofree@ucla.edu from Nov. 15 to Jan. 15.
 
All 10 UC campuses must go tobacco-free by Jan. 2014. UCLA’s rules will prohibit cigarettes, pipes, cigars, chewing tobacco and all other forms of tobacco, as well as e-cigarettes, as required by the UC policy. Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States.
